Toyota is all set to re-enter the sub-4 metre SUV segment, with the Japanese automaker confirming the Fronx-based crossover is set to launch on April 3, 2024. Toyota had earlier trademarked the ‘Urban Cruiser Taisor’ name, which could be potentially used for this model. It will retain the same engine options and features. However, it will sport a distinct design from the Fronx. Let's delve into what you can expect from this upcoming model.

Toyota will definitely revamp the looks by changing the fascia of the car by adding in a different grille with Toyota badging, re-designed bumpers, different headlight, DRL and tail lamp signatures as well as bespoke alloys, all of which we have seen in the earlier shared models between the two brands.

The dash layout and design might be the same as the Fronx crossover. However, to make it stand out, Toyota might change not just the badges but also the colours inside. The Toyota version might have a brighter interior, unlike the black and burgundy theme in the Maruti model.
Likewise, the Toyota Taisor will come with all the same features found in the Fronx. You can expect a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless connectivity for Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, a heads-up display, automatic climate control, and cruise control.
For safety, it will offer up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a 360-degree camera.

The Toyota crossover, akin to previous Maruti-Toyota ventures, will share engines and transmissions with the Fronx. It is expected to offer a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 90 PS, with a choice of 5-speed manual or AMT. Moreover, a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine yielding 100 PS and 148 Nm is also expected, paired with either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. Though a CNG powertrain akin to the Fronx is expected, it might be available at a later stage.

Considering the pricing of the Maruti Fronx, we anticipate that the Toyota Taisor will be priced in the range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom). Its different variants might come with a slightly higher price tag compared to the Maruti-branded model. As Toyota isn't presently in competition within the sub-4m SUV segment, this crossover will also fend against contenders such as the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and Mahindra XUV300.
